Egypt Tourist Attractions - Holidays at Egypt's Red Sea Coast

Introduction
Egypt’s Red Sea coast, stretching from the Gulf of Suez to the border with Sudan, offers a whole host of options for visitors. This area is, of course, full of ancient culture and history, yet tourists can also enjoy great beach holidays with a full range of modern facilities.

When it comes to holidays, don’t think that Egypt is just about history and culture. The Red Sea resorts also offer a range of other holiday options, so visitors can relax and enjoy beach life or get more active with water sports. In fact many visitors book a property in Hurghada as their first choice for a holiday every year!

Red Sea resorts

• Hurghada -- Hurghada enjoys a pleasant year-round climate and is well known for water sports.

• El Gouna -- this resort is a bit of a hidden gem. It offers great beaches and islands to explore as well as a range of spa facilities.

• El Ouseir -- El Ouseir is a peaceful resort rich in sandy beaches, coral reefs and beautifully clear waters. The old town is also worth a visit to see the traditional bazaars.

• Abu Soma and Soma Bay -- the resorts of Abu Soma and Soma Bay offer a range of sandy beaches and natural desert landscapes. Soma Bay also has a USPGA Championship 18 hole golf course and a spa center.

Attractions / Things to do
The Red Sea coastal resorts offer all manner of things to do and see and shopping is always a good option (look out for leather, pottery and jewelry). Water sports are extremely popular in the area (including diving, swimming with dolphins, snorkeling and fishing) -- the more adventurous can sign up for camel or jeep safaris to explore the mountains and inland scenery.

Visitors can choose from all kinds of hotels in the area from small and cozy through to luxury. There are also all kinds of options when it comes to entertainment. Popular eating choices include traditional Egyptian restaurants through to various western options. People looking for a lively night-life should look at Hurghada and Sharm -- both of which have plenty of bars, clubs and discos.

Climate
Egypt sees few cloudy days so visitors will usually enjoy a sunny break -- although it can get a little breezy on the coast!.

Getting there
Most people fly into the country. It used to be that visitors would have to fly to Cairo and then take an internal flight or other form of transport to get to the coast. Nowadays, however, Hurghada airport does have some international flights.

Currency and language
Egypt uses the Egyptian Pound. The official language of the country is Arabic. Visitors usually find that English and French are also widely understood.
