Pyramids - the Apex of Ancient Egypt man made Structures
How these incredible man made structures were built so early in
history? What kind of social structure or system Egyptians had to
make them capable of building them? These two questions deeply overwhelmed
me the first time I gazed at the Giza Pyramids.
Think of this: the Pyramids at Giza were built about
4500 years ago. They remained the tallest human made structure in
the entire world for 3800 years.
The Great Pyramid is made of two million limestone
blocks weighing an average of 2.5 tons each. Its shape is so elegantly
simple that it is universal and timeless. Egyptian architects resisted
the temptation of adding any stylistic ornaments, not even hieroglyphics.
The mathematics involved in the design and construction is simply
perplexing. It's been said that one Greek mathematician went mad
when he found out that the relation between the width and the height
of Khufu's Pyramid was the number Pi.
Tip from INFOHUB:
Do not go inside a pyramid if you are claustrophobic! The chambers
are very small and it’s pretty cramped inside. Especially avoid
those larger pyramids that attract hundreds of people. The inner
passages are so narrow and long that it’s almost impossible to get
back in case of emergency if it’s crowded. However if you still
desire to see real Egyptian tombs choose a smaller pyramid belonging
to a queen or a noble. They are pretty cramped inside too but you
will generally have them to yourself. Doing this will give you a
good taste of what it will be like in the larger pyramids, so you
can decide whether you want to pay to go in them. The great pyramid
costs a bundle of money for a trip inside by the way. The small
queens' pyramids are much less expensive. You can enter one for
about $US5.

The ground was leveled to a perfect horizontal base, an engineering
feat, and the sides are exactly aligned to the cardinal points,
an achievement requiring a knowledge of astronomy.

Pyramids and the construction of other ancient Egypt man made structures
required complex administration. Egyptians used simple building
tools, such as copper saws, drills, pickaxes, chisels and hammers.
Every year, during the Nile flood season, thousands of workers were
assembled when there was no work to be done in the fields and payed
to construct these colossal tombs as a final resting place for the
mummies of their pharaohs. Such giant public projects kept the economy
of Ancient Egypt healthy and running, a model that was used by the
US government in the 1930's to overcome the Great Depression. (Hoover
Dam, Mount Rushmore, etc.)
These are not the achievements of an alien or extraterrestial
race. The pyramids, from thought to finish, are the apex, the pinnacle
of perfection of Ancient Egypt man made structures, landmarks, beacons
of an advanced African civilization with a well defined social system,
highly developed religious beliefs, profound philosophy and elaborate
worshipping and funeral rites. Ancient egyptian pyramids are more
than just tombs for pharaohs.
